About The Universities:
Nestled into the rolling hills of the Palouse are the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho and Washington State University in Pullman, Washington.Separated by only eight miles, the two schools work closely together to provide many joint efforts including things such as cooperative classes, volunteer activities, and the UI/WSU NROTC Unit.
About Moscow and Pullman
The Moscow-Pullman area offers a multitude of activities for all types of interests. Each town has its own public library and public parks to spare. Family activities include places like the Palouse Discovery Center in Pullman (www.palousescience.org) and Wild@Art (http://www.moscowwildatart.com) inside the Eastside Marketplace in Moscow. Individual pursuits are also available with a combined four golf courses between the cities as well as endless places to camp, boat, fish, hike, or just enjoy the scenery. Just a short drive to the south are hotspot attractions like Hells Canyon and the Snake River. And to the north are beautiful attractions like Kamiak Butte State Park, and the cities of Saint Maries and Coeur D’Alene with their enormous lakes and rich history. If you can’t seem to find what you’re looking for here in the area, there are great surrounding cities like Lewiston, ID, Coeur D’alene, ID, Spokane, WA, and even Seattle, WA.
For active duty members, the closest military base is Fairchild Air Base located near Spokane, WA.

About the Unit
The University of Idaho/ Washington State University Navy and Marine Corps ROTC program is composed of approximately 100 STA-21 Officer Candidates, MECEP Marines, and Navy and Marine option Midshipman. The diverse backgrounds of our battalion members create an extremely well-rounded and efficient team. Many of our members are enrolled in technical and engineering majors and perform exceptionally well in their classes. In the Spring 2008 semester alone, the unit’s combined GPA soared to a 3.45 due in large part to the large number of available study aids. The NROTC’s math and physics tutor comes directly to the unit to help with any level of courses in the math and physics areas, and the battalion study programs provide plenty of opportunity to seek help from others within the unit as well as from other university sponsored study aids.Aside from academics, the UI/WSU NROTC gives many other chances to get involved. There are many clubs for specially designated communities within the Navy and Marine Corps such as the Nuclear Club, Aviation Club, Surface Warfare Club, and Semper Fi Club. The clubs foster an atmosphere of esprit de corps within the unit and also provide insights to the communities in which we will serve in the near future. There are also many Battalion sports teams that compete locally in UI/WSU intramural leagues and annually in the Northwest Navy tournament between UI/WSU, University of Washington, Oregon State University, and the University of Utah. The teams include flag football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, swimming, rifle/pistol team, and the physical skills team. Outside of the unit itself, the battalion members regularly take part in community volunteer events and make a very positive impact on both cities.In addition to all of the exciting activities the Unit participates in, there are special events like the Fall and Spring picnics, Navy/Marine Corps Birthday Ball, Winter holiday party, and the coveted Battalion Golf Championship.
Moving Here
Moscow, Idaho and Pullman, Washington are only 8 miles apart. With Lewiston, Idaho and Clarkston, Washington only 28 miles to the south they make up the "Quad Cities". Surrounded by some great cities and towns, Spokane is 75 miles to the north of Pullman on Highway 195, and Coeur D'Alene 85 miles north of Moscow on Highway 95. Where you can enjoy the water on the Beautiful Lakes Coeur D'Alene and Pend Oreille. Or you could head south, and enjoy the rugged scenery of the Snake River.
